So how does the MACS system increase rodent holding room density? There are several ways. Each and any combination will help you increase the numbers of rodent cages within a room.
The first is that the mouse Universal Cage Stack is designed to hold 10 cages in less than six feet of height. The design makes it easier for technicians to access the highest and lowest rows.
More importantly, is locating the “extra” space within every room. There is usually available space that can be found in a room. This space; however, is not arranged so that traditionally sized vent rack footprints will not easily fit into it. With the wide variety of MACS racks and frames, areas like corners, walls and small spaces can be used for MACS cage stacks to MACS-imize the all the space available.
You can also maximize workflow areas to increase density. By analyzing and re-organizing traffic and workflow patterns you may also be able to increase cage density. Overlapping aisles and/or centralizing work locations that can increase access to cages may help room density.
Take the MACS Challenge and let the Alternative Design Room Support Design team help. We can show you ways to increase room density. We just need some room dimensions, equipment locations and room utilities information to start. Click here to take the MACS™ Challenge.
